Hello! I’m Jowell, a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience working across public community and private mental health settings. I enjoy working with people across the lifespan, and my approach is always to work collaboratively – prioritising warmth, curiosity and creating a safe space where you can feel seen and heard.
I primarily draw from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, while integrating other evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Family Systems Therapy (FST). I firmly believe that treatment approaches should be tailored to each client’s specific needs and circumstances, with all therapeutic options discussed openly and collaboratively. This flexible, evidence-based approach allows me to support individuals through various challenges, from anxiety and low mood to more complex presentations. What sets my practice apart is the integration of evidence-based therapeutic approaches with systems-based work (i.e. not only considering the individual’s family system but their work, social and wider communities). By working this way, we can create a more sustainable path to wellbeing strategies that extends beyond our individual therapy sessions.
I also have particular expertise in working with children, adolescents, and families. My expertise in this area spans a wide range of early childhood, primary school-aged and adolescent challenges, including anxiety, low mood, behavioural concerns, attachment issues, neurodevelopmental presentations and risk concerns. I also offer support for parents within this space. My passion lies in providing comprehensive mental health support through a family-based approach, recognising that each individual exists within the context of their broader family system. This perspective allows me to consider each person not just as an individual, but as part of their wider family system, enabling more comprehensive and effective therapeutic outcomes. By working collaboratively with families based on this combination of approaches, I am able to tailor treatment plans that address both individual needs and family dynamics.
I also have significant experience working in schools, and am available to offer consultancy and advocacy for children and adolescents within educational settings. If you or your child feel you would benefit from tailored support planning for their needs in school, this can also be a focus of our work. This area is a particular passion of mine, and I am committed to bringing families and schools onto the same page to support children and young people.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward improved mental health and wellbeing.
